Air con, done legally
Is air conditioning allowed at my property?
Usually, yes, but check first. Some local authorities restrict outdoor units, and flats often need freeholder or landlord consent. We check what applies to your property before we quote, so nothing gets fitted that should not be there.
What is F-Gas certification and why does it matter?
Air conditioning systems contain fluorinated refrigerant gases. UK law requires both the individual engineer and the employing company to be F-Gas certified to install or service them. If an uncertified installer works on your system, both the installer and the homeowner are breaking UK law. Every Sturgeon installer is F-Gas certified.
Why don't most builders show an F-Gas certificate on their website?
Most builders subcontract refrigerant work to specialist HVAC engineers rather than doing it themselves, and their subcontractor pool changes, so published certificates quickly go out of date. Many also promote Gas Safe instead, which covers mains gas and boilers, not refrigerants. It is a different qualification.
How do I verify an installer's credentials?
Ask for the company's F-Gas registration number, typically through a scheme like REFCOM, and ask to see the engineer's own certificate plus evidence of ongoing CPD. If an installer says they do not need to provide this, treat it as a red flag.
What is CPD and revalidation?
F-Gas qualifications are no longer valid for life. Installers must revalidate every five years, and good ones keep their knowledge current in between. Our installers complete CPD every year, and we will show you the evidence whenever you ask.
Which brands do you install?
We install Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu and Daikin systems, sized and specified to the room rather than to a one-size-fits-all package.
